Mattel, Inc. Announces Two Business Ventures


(El Segundo, CA) Mattel, Inc. was founded in the year 1945.  Since then, it constantly strives to expand its business portfolio.  Through licensing agreements and partnerships, Mattel, aims at being a global entertainment business.  As a global entertainment business; movie projects, developing television content, gaming, music and live events are all important facets of Mattel’s business operations.  Recently, the aforementioned business made public, two business ventures.  Additionally, these two revealed business ventures are consistent with, Mattel’s business portfolio.  The first of the two business ventures, is a partnership with, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.  For the previously said; it is a partnership to be able to develop the Hot Wheels toy line, into, a live-action feature film.  The second of the two business ventures, is a licensing agreement with National Geographic.  For the previously said, it is a licensing agreement to create a toy line, along with, content.  This toy line is intended to be a spun-off, of the Barbie brand.  Meanwhile the created content; is supposed to be centered on exploration, science, conservation and research.

          The created exploration, science, conservation and research content will be under the supervision of National Geographic.  National Geographic Partners, LLC (NGP) is a joint business venture between National Geographic, and, 21st Century Fox.  NGP is the business entity for the network of media assets that, is owned by 21st Century Fox.  This network of media assets is best characterized by the following businesses:  the National Geographic Channel; Nat Geo Wild; Nat Geo Mundo; Nat Geo People; the National Geographic Magazine and National Geographic Studios.  As previously stated, NGP’s business venture with Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:  MAT) is a licensing agreement.  Through this licensing agreement a toy line or doll; will be spun-off from the Barbie brand, and, it will be developed as its own line.  Specifically, this toy line will be highlighted by career dolls and play sets.  The aim of both is to draw attention to occupations, in which, women are underrepresented.  Wildlife conservationist, astrophysicist, polar marine biologist, wildlife photojournalist and entomologist are examples of the occupations.  All of the dolls and play sets, will come with relevant accessories.  Additionally, everything will be authenticated by an advisory council.  The advisory council will be made up of female National Geographic Explorers, along with, the Editor of National Geographic Magazine; Susan Goldberg.  The toy line is expected at retail stores, sometime in the fall of the year 2019.  The price range for everything is $14.99 to $29.99 USD.  Susan Goldberg is the Editor in Chief of National Geographic Magazine, and, the Editorial Director of National Geographic Partners, LLC.  Through a press statement, Ms./Mrs. Goldberg said the following.  “Helping people understand the world is, and always has been, the core purpose of National Geographic.  Through our partnership with Barbie, we are excited to reach kids in a new way, using the power of play to inspire our next generation of explorers, scientists and photographers.” 

          Lisa McKnight is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Barbie Brand at Mattel, Inc.  Through a press statement, Ms./Mrs. McKnight said the following.  “Barbie and National Geographic represent a powerhouse combination and our joint creative efforts allow kids to explore the world and different career fields right in their own homes.”  Lisa McKnight also said.  “Barbie allows girls to try on new roles through storytelling by showing them they can be anything and, through our partnership with National Geographic, girls can now imagine themselves as an Astrophysicist, Polar Marine Biologist and more.” 

          Returning to, Mattel’s first revealed business venture, the aforementioned is a partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures Group.  The nature of this business partnership, is to develop the Hot Wheels toy line into a live-action feature film.  Additionally, this movie project is the second collaborative effort between Mattel, Inc., and, Warner Bros. Pictures.  Incidentally, the first is a feature film that is based on the toy brand, Barbie.  For the latter, actress Margot Robbie was chosen as the star.  Hot Wheels is a beloved toy racing car line, or, brand of toys.  Additionally, it was first débuted in the year 1968.  Since then, more than 6 billion individual Hot Wheels racing cars have been sold.  It is estimated that, more than 500 million Hot Wheels racing cars are sold; every year.  This fact makes the Hot Wheels brand, the number one selling toy line in the world.

          To end, Ynon Kreiz is the Chairman and the C.E.O. of Mattel, Inc.  Through a press statement, Mr. Kreiz said the following.  “We are excited to bring the thrill of a Hot Wheels live-action feature film to the big screen in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures.  Mattel Films has great momentum as it continues to execute on our commitment to bring global audiences new ways to experience the brands they love as we transform Mattel into an IP-driven, high-performing toy company.”  As previously stated, the aforementioned toy manufacturer recently made public, two of its business ventures.  Additionally, these two revealed business ventures, are consistent with Mattel’s business portfolio.  The first of the two business ventures, is a partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures Group.  The second of the two business ventures, is a licensing agreement with National Geographic.  Lastly and overall; a movie is currently under development, along with, a spun-off line of dolls.
