Mattel, Inc. Reveals Movie and Television Projects


(El Segundo, CA) The toy brands Barbie, Hot Wheels, American Girl, Fisher Price, Thomas & Friends and Mega are iconic Mattel.  Additionally, these toy brands, or lines, are popularly known for the ability to engage a child’s attention span.  In turn; Mattel is respected for the overall design of the toy, and, the overall quality of the toy product.  Recently; Mattel, Inc. announced two big movie, and, television projects.  Both projects are based, on Mattel’s legendary portfolio of toys.  The movie project, is also, a partnership with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc.  Additionally; the movie project is a live-action feature film that, is based on the toy line, American Girl.  The television project, is an in-house project.  Specifically, Mattel Television is going to develop 22 animated and live-action, television programs.  These television programs are intended for a worldwide, multi-platform distribution.

          The worldwide multi-platform distribution, of the revealed 22 television programs, is for Mattel’s globally recognized characters.  Specifically, 20 items of the Mattel portfolio will make up the 22 television programs.  Additionally, the latter will also fall under the following genres.  Action, adventure, humor, game shows and music are the genres.  Furthermore; toddlers, pre-school age children, boys, girls, pre-teenagers and teenagers are the targeted demographics groups.  As part of the in-house project idea, Mattel’s Franchise Management Division, will be heavily involved.  For example, the tasks of global content distribution, will be led by Fred Soulie.  Mr. Fred Soulie is currently the Senior Vice President of Content Distribution and Business Development.  He will oversee the global and strategic distribution; of the newly created television content across all platforms, and, geographic territories.  Mattel Television’s revealed 22 television projects, will be overseen by Adam Bonnett.  Mr. Adam Bonnet is an Executive Producer.  Additionally, Adam Bonnet will work in partnership with Christopher Keenan.  Mr. Christopher Keenan, currently, is the Senior Vice President and an Executive Producer at Mattel Television.

          Ynon Kreiz is the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:  MAT).  Through a press statement, Mr. Kreiz said the following.  “With the proliferation of broadcasting and streaming platforms, there is a growing demand for high-quality content driven by global brands.  Mattel is the owner of one of the strongest portfolios of children’s and family entertainment franchises in the world.  We have countless opportunities to bring these brands to their fans through episodic programming that will capture the imaginations of kids and families worldwide.  This marks another important step to capture the full value of our assets as we drive our transformation to become an IP-driven, high-performing toy company.” 

          As previously said, the revealed feature film project is a partnership with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc. (MGM).  This partnership will develop a live-action feature film based, on the toy line of dolls and books; American Girl.  Additionally, Erik Feig as part of the Picturestart banner, will be a producer of this movie.  The production process will be overseen by Cassidy Lange, and, Robbie Brenner.  Cassidy Lange is the Co-President of Production at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc. (MGM).  Robbie Brenner is an Executive Producer at Mattel Films.  In reference to, American Girl, the following deserves highlighting about this toy brand.  It is estimated that more than 32 million, American Girl dolls have been sold, since the introduction of the toy line into the marketplace.  Additionally, 157 million American Girl books, have also been sold.  This toy line or brand; American Girl, along with, the characters were first introduced, in the year 1986.  It is also credited with being a world of inspiration, for girls.  Incidentally; some also say that, these characters nourish a girl’s spirit, and, help to develop strength of character.  Jonathan Glickman is the President of the Metro Goldwyn Mayer Motion Picture Group.  Through a press statement, Mr. Glickman said the following.  “American Girl is a timeless and iconic brand that is part of the fabric of families all over the world.  We look forward to working with our partners at Mattel and PICTURESTART to bring this cross-generational film to audiences all over the globe.”
