The why part is a reference about, why, the aforementioned business is a leader of technology and innovation. Obviously, it is an open ended question without an answer. However; defense, civil government and cyber security are known specializations of the Raytheon Company. The previously said, can obviously help to answer the previously posed, why question. Recently, and for the month of May of the year 2019, the Raytheon Company revealed two of its military contracts. The first revealed contract; is for design agent, and, engineering services. The second revealed contract, is for the modernization of the U.S.A.’s G.P.S.
The modernized G.P.S. of the United States of America; as a U.S. Government contract, is the G.P.S. Next Generation Operational Control System Program at the Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN). The latter, is also known as, GPS OCX. However and returning to, the first revealed contract. As previously said; it is for design agent, and, engineering services. Initially, it has a value of $15,267,422 USD. This value is defined as being for a cost plus incentive fee, firm fixed price, cost plus fixed fee and cost only contract for design agent and engineering services. The effort of this U.S. Government contract, is to support the Cooperative Engagement Capability (C.E.C.). The C.E.C. program is a strike force air and missile defense program. Specifically, it is a sensor network with integrated fire control capabilities. The capabilities are made possible by coordinating measurement data, from, strike force air search sensors. These sensors, are able to, produce a real-time composite and track picture. As a result; the strike force air and missile has a longer range, it is more cooperative and it has multiple engagement strategies. As part of this contract, there are undisclosed options. If the undisclosed options are exercised, the total value of this U.S. Government contract will reach, $279,340,117 USD.
The work for the design agent and engineering services contract, will be done at two locations. The first location is St. Petersburg, Florida U.S.A. Additionally, it is estimated that, this location will be used 95% of the time. The second location is Largo, Florida U.S.A. Additionally, it is estimated that, this location will be used 5% of the time. The work, without the options, is expected to be completed before September of the year 2022. However, if all of the options are exercised, this contract will be completed before April of the year 2024. Finally, this contract is under the supervision of the Naval Sea Systems Command. The previous, is located in, Washington, D.C.
Returning to, the GPS OCX, the aforementioned just recently completed and passed the final qualifications tests. These tests were, specifically, for the system’s modernized monitor station receivers. The modernized receivers are ready and compatible with, next generation G.P.S. III. As a result, the GPS OCX station receivers are ready to be installed; globally. The latter, is expected to start in August, of the year 2019. As previously said, the second revealed contract, is for the modernization of the U.S.A.’s G.P.S. This effort is under the U.S. Air Force’s control. However and regrettably, the monetary value of this U.S. Government contract was not disclosed.
To end, the Raytheon Company did release a press statement. Dave Wajsgras is the President of Intelligence, Information and Services at the Raytheon Company. Through a press statement, Mr. Wajsgras said the following. “The modernized receivers give GPS OCX the ability to receive and decrypt all GPS III military and civil signals, a critical capability the current system doesn’t have. Monitor station receiver installation keeps us on track for full system delivery by our June 2021 contractual deadline.” As previously stated, for the month of May of the year 2019, the Raytheon Company recently revealed two of its military contracts. The first revealed contract; is for design agent and engineering services. Lastly; the second revealed contract, is for the modernization of the U.S.A.’s G.P.S.
