Howie Cohen Releases a Memoir

(Los Angeles, CA) A memoir, by its definition is derived from a collection of memories.  From this point and in reality, there isn’t a definition.  For example, personal knowledge or special sources can also be the source of the written material.  For a truly spectacular memoir, there needs to be a literary element.  A memoir needs to go beyond the basic stuff, and, it has to transport the reader to a different world.  The reader is there, along with, the author on the journey that, is being described or embarked upon.  Recently, Howie Cohen announced that, he has attempted to describe in words a rollercoaster journey; his life.  Specifically, the aforementioned author revealed that, he has released a memoir.  The memoir is entitled, I Can’t Believe I Lived the Whole Thing.  In, I Can’t Believe I Lived the Whole Thing, Mr. Howie Cohen attempts to re-tell his life’s story.  Incidentally, his life’s story is best characterized, as the life story of a creator of advertisements.

          The life story of a creator of advertisements, interestingly enough, is a copywriter’s story.  Red Rascal Press, as the publishing company, is the business entity that makes everything possible.  However and returning to, Howie Cohen, the aforementioned person is a Jewish man.  Currently or today, Howie Cohen travels the country speaking.  His professional life is supported by his wife, Carol.  Additionally, the speaking engagements are centered on emotional advertising.  Through his speech, Howie Cohen attempts to teach the connection that, exists between emotions and the idea for an advertisement.  In order, to accomplish the previously said, the emotions have to aim at the heart or laughter.  His career began in New York City and at, Doyle Dane Bernbach.  After the previously mentioned advertisement agency, the home and employer became Wells, Rich and Greene.  After Wells, Rich and Greene, Howie Cohen became the owner of his own advertisement agency.  Eventually and through his life experiences as the owner, he decided to move to the City of Los Angeles, California U.S.A.

          Ultimately, I Can’t Believe I Lived the Whole Thing, is best characterized as the materialization of Jewish copywriters mingling with Italian art directors.  Eventually, successful and popular advertisement campaigns earned Howie Cohen recognition.  For example, he is recognized for the following advertisement slogans:  “Try it, You’ll Like it;” “I Can’t Believe I Ate the Whole Thing” and “Petco, Where the Pets Go.”  Coincidentally, he also created the famous Jack in the Box advertisement; the one where the clown blows up.  The career high point, according to Mr. Howie Cohen, was receiving the Hall of Fame Award of the Clio Awards.  A Hall of Fame Award is indeed an official award category, of the Clio Awards.  The first year, in which a Clio Award was handed out, was 1960.  The objective is to recognize the creative excellence that; is exuded in advertising, design and communication.  Additionally, the Clio Awards are an annual event, or, program.  An international panel of advertising professionals, decide the award for each category.

          In regards to the release of, I Can’t Believe I Lived the Whole Thing; Howie Cohen’s professional colleagues have taken notice, and, have commented.  Jerry Della Femina is a winner of the Hall of Fame Award, of the Clio Awards.  Through a press statement, Jerry Della Femina said the following.  “Howie transported me to 1967 and a time when advertising was the most fun you could have with your clothes on.  It’s the funniest book about advertising in the past 50 years that gives an exclusive look at days that were filled with big wins and hilarious failures.”  Kirkus Reviews, the magazine, also commented the following.  “Cohen writes in a punchy, funny and consistently surprising style.  An entertaining account of a career in the highest echelons of advertising.”  Blue Ink Review, the magazine, also commented the following.  “His stories about the old days when Madison Avenue unleashed a never-before-seen brand of advertising—propelled by humor and an arched eyebrow—are well worth reading.”
