Ceva, Inc. Acquires Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc.

(Mountain View, CA and Rockville, MD) Currently, the motion technology solutions of Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc. can be found in more than 100 million consumer devices.  In particular; Hillcrest’s motion technology solutions are raved about, due to the fact that, they can accelerate the time to the marketplace.  These motion technology solutions are easily divided into two sets; hardware, and, software.  In reference to both sets; the actual applications are best described as human motion sensing, robot navigation & sensing, motion controlled UX and embedded IoT sensors.  Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc. is owned by Inter Digital Wireless, Inc. (NASDAQ:  IDCC).  Recently, Ceva, Inc. announced that, Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc. is no longer owned by Inter Digital Wireless, Inc.  Specifically, the aforementioned business revealed that, it has acquired Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc.  However and regrettably, the acquisition cost was not made public.  It is hoped that, this acquisition will further extend, Ceva’s portfolio of proprietary technology solutions.

Ceva’s portfolio of proprietary technology solutions, post-acquisition of Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc., will now include highly complementary sensor processing technologies.  In other words; Ceva, Inc. is now the owner of a global supplier of software and hardware components, for sensor processing in consumer and IoT, devices.  However and returning to, the applications of Hillcrest’s motion technology solutions; the aforementioned and as previously said, are divided into two sets.  The two sets are hardware and software.  In reference to both sets; the actual applications are human motion sensing, robot navigation & sensing, motion controlled UX and embedded IoT sensors.  In reference to human motion sensing; Hillcrest’s technology solutions are capable of delivering precise, low latency head tracking and a high level of accuracy of 3DoF body motion capture.  The latter; allows for the creation of immersive experiences through intuitive controls for 3D audio, augmented reality, virtual reality and motion capture systems.  In reference to robot navigation & sensing, Hillcrest’s technology solutions are capable of delivering high levels of accuracy, when it comes to inertial navigation.  Additionally; the improved inertial navigation, enables superior heading performance in diverse and changing, environments.  The latter; allows autonomous robots to accurately navigate, and, interact with their environment.  The environment includes indoors and outdoors.  In reference to motion controlled UX, Hillcrest’s technology solution is named, Freespace.  Additionally; Freespace has already been incorporated into tens of millions of devices that need cursor, gesture and motion controls.  The latter, intuitively controls the interaction with natural interfaces and games.  Augmented reality, virtual reality, TV, PC and video game systems are the types of products that; would require the previously mentioned intuitive control of the interaction.  In reference to embedded IoT sensors, Hillcrest’s technology solution enables diverse applications in various types of consumer products.  Consumer fitness products, navigation products, asset tracking, industrial monitoring and various other types of consumer products are a good example.  The latter; is made possible through motion, and, environmental sensor data.  This data can then be easily converted into high quality, and, application ready information.

Chad Lucien is the President of Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc.  Through a press statement, Mr. Lucien said the following.  “We are proud and energized to join CEVA, one of the most innovative and dynamic technology companies in the industry.  As everyday devices increasingly include more and more sensors to improve the user experience through contextual awareness, our sensor processing and sensor fusion technologies perfectly complement CEVA’s existing smart sensing platforms.  We look forward to the new challenges and possibilities that await us in our new home.”

To end, Ceva, Inc. (NASDAQ:  CEVA) did release a press statement.  Gideon Wertheizer is the Chief Executive Officer of Ceva, Inc.  Through a press statement, Mr. Wertheizer said the following.  “We are truly excited to welcome the Hillcrest Labs team to CEVA.  Their unrivalled expertise in sensor processing and innovative sensor fusion technology, as well as proven track record of high-volume shipments align perfectly with our diversification strategy in the smart sensing domain.  This acquisition presents opportunities for multiple royalty growth vectors, including from OEMs, and enables us to be a pioneer in the emerging fields of AR & VR and the different classes of robots.  Together with our broad portfolio of connectivity, sound, vision and AI technologies, Hillcrest labs will enable us to continue to redefine the limits of our technology solutions for the data-driven world.”  As previously stated, Ceva, Inc. recently announced that, Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc. is no longer owned by Inter Digital Wireless, Inc.  Specifically, the aforementioned business revealed that, it has acquired Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc.  However and regrettably, the acquisition cost was not made public.  It is hoped that, this acquisition will further extend, Ceva’s portfolio of proprietary technology solutions.  Lastly; Ceva’s portfolio of proprietary technology solutions, will now include, highly complementary sensor processing technologies.
