Acura Showcases its Racing Heritage at the 2019 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

(Torrance, CA) Interestingly, the 2019 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, was also, a 50th year anniversary celebration.  This celebration was centered on fifty years, of premier International Motor Sports Association (I.M.S.A.) sports car racing.  Additionally, this celebration occurred on, August 15th to the 18th, 2019.  Normally; the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is where the public, can see and hear, historic race cars racing each other.  Approximately, 550 race cars are selected to compete in races.  These races occur, throughout, two days.  The selected race cars are scrutinized, after an official application, has been received and processed.  A selected race car is authentic, possesses racing prowess and is time period correct.  Obviously, these historic race cars are racing at full speed, inside, the Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca.  The previous, is a speedway that is located in Monterey County, California U.S.A.  Recently, Acura announced that, it took part in the 50th year anniversary celebration.  Specifically; the aforementioned automobile manufacturer revealed that, it showcased its racing heritage, at the 2019 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.  Technically; the racing heritage was showcased through three Acura race car prototypes, and, two generations of Acura race car drivers.

          The two generations of Acura race car drivers, and, the three Acura race car prototypes; ran a lap together at the Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca.  The lap together, was also, intended to be a way of honoring; premier International Motor Sports Association (I.M.S.A.) sports car racing.  However and returning to, the Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca, the aforementioned is known by previous names.  The previous names are; Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and, Laguna Seca Raceway.  Additionally, it was first built, in the year 1957.  Specifically, the Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca is built on a dried lake.  The actual racetrack is 2.238 miles (3.602 km) long, and, it is accentuated by eleven turns.  Additionally, there is a signature downhill plunge “corkscrew” that, is a defining characteristic of turns 8 and 8A.  The paved race surface permits both auto racing, and, motorcycle racing.

          Returning to, the three Acura race car prototypes, the aforementioned have a common livery design.  The livery design is Dave Marek’s creative work.  Mr. Dave Marek is the Acura Executive Creative Director at Honda R&D Americas, Inc.  The artwork was designed using a mixed medium 3D design program, a hand drawing and an image manipulation program.  Two of the prototypes that were used were, first generation Comptech Spice Acura GTP Lights.  The third prototype that was used, is the Acura ARX-05 DPI.  In reference to, the two generations of drivers.  The first generation of drivers, is specific, for the Comptech Spice Acura GTP Lights.  Additionally; Parker Johnstone, Dan Marvin and Wayne Taylor are the race car drivers.  The second generation of drivers, is specific, for the Acura ARX-05 DPI.  Additionally, Ricky Taylor is the race car driver.  Mr. Ricky Taylor, is currently, an Acura Team Penske race car driver.

          To end, Acura did release a press statement.  Jon Ikeda is the Vice President and Brand Officer at Acura.  Through a press statement, Mr. Ikeda said the following.  “Our outstanding success in IMSA in the 1990s paved the way toward establishing Acura as a performance brand and has served as a proof point for Precision Crafted Performance.  Acura was very much a ‘new kid on the block’ when we began endurance sports car racing and it will be a genuine thrill to watch these historic first-generation cars on track with our contemporary race machines.”  As previously stated, Acura recently announced that, it took part in the 50th year anniversary celebration.  Specifically; the aforementioned automobile manufacturer revealed that, it showcased its racing heritage, at the 2019 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.  Technically; the racing heritage was showcased through three Acura race car prototypes, and, two generations of Acura race car drivers.  Lastly, the showcase was done by running a lap together, at the Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca.
