Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. Launches an Automotive Display Power Management Integrated Circuit

(San Jose, CA) Automotive electronic systems, are commonly referred to as, automotive electronics.  The latter, are obviously found in automobiles.  Additionally, the tasks that are performed through the automotive electronic system are not limited to; engine management, ignition, radio, carputers, telematics, entertainment systems and various other types of tasks that require electricity.  In modern hybrid automobiles and electric automobiles, the automotive electronic system does perform control tasks.  As a result, of the previously said; automotive electronic systems have increased in cost.  In fact, this type of cost is considered to be, a large component of an automobile’s manufacturing cost.  In the year 2010, it was estimated that an automotive electronic system accounts for 30%, of an automobile’s manufacturing cost.  Recently, Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. announced that, it possesses a unique understanding of automotive electronic systems.  Specifically, the aforementioned business revealed that, it has launched an automotive display power management integrated circuit (I.C.).  The latter, is named the MAX16923.  Additionally, the MAX16923 is a highly integrated power technology solution that, is meant for original equipment manufacturers (O.E.M.s).
O.E.M.s when using Maxim’s MAX16923, are now able to increase the quantity of monitor displays, inside the automobile.  Additionally and through the design process; the design complexity is dramatically reduced, along with, the size.  However and returning to; automotive electronic systems, the aforementioned and as previously said, perform tasks.  One of those stipulated tasks is, entertainment systems.  Under the umbrella of automotive electronic systems; an automobile’s entertainment system is responsible for the navigation system, the audio, the video and information access.  The latter, can also be called the in-car entertainment, or, the infotainment system.  An infotainment system, is a collection of hardware and software, in automobiles.  The purpose is audio and/or video entertainment.  Additionally, the modern infotainment system does include some type of internet access, steering wheel placed controls and voice activated controls.
Returning to, Maxim’s MAX16923, the aforementioned is intended to replace four or five discrete integrated circuits.  Additionally, through this process automotive designers can now design an approximated five monitor displays, for use inside the automobile.  Furthermore, and as far as automotive designers are concerned; Maxim’s MAX16923 is a 4 output display power I.C. with a watchdog timer.  The overall idea, is to help automotive designers, through, more available time.  The additional time can be spent on the design of advanced instrument clusters, infotainment systems, heads up displays, center displays, rear seat entertainment and smart mirror applications.
Continuing with, the MAX16923, the aforementioned has four power rails.  These four power rails come with a high voltage buck converter, a low voltage buck converter, a high voltage low drop-out regulator, a low voltage low drop-out regulator, electromagnetic interference (E.M.I.) mitigation and a watchdog timer all on one single I.C.  Overall, the MAX16923 is set apart by three key advantages.  The three key advantages are; smallest solution size, lower cost and low E.M.I.  In reference to, smallest solution size, the aforementioned necessitates an important designation.  This important designation is, the industry’s first.  Specifically, the industry’s first automotive power management I.C. to integrate five functions, into, one integrated circuit (I.C.).  In reference to, lower cost, the aforementioned is translated into a small size.  In other words, the lower cost is derived from an I.C. that is now shrunken in size, by 50%.  The latter, also translates into a small P.C.B. size, and, an overall lower bill of material costs (B.O.M.).  In reference to, low E.M.I., the aforementioned is a reduced E.M.I. interference.  Specifically, a reduced E.M.I. interference, of low noise signal to the display.  This is made possible by a spread spectrum, a slew rate controlled switching and a programmable switching frequency.
Greg Basich is the Associate Director of the Automotive Infotainment & Telematics Service at Strategy Analytics.  Through a press statement, Mr. Basich said the following.  “Growth in the automotive display segment over the next five years will be strong as OEMs increase the number and size of displays in cars.  Some premium vehicles may have as many as 10 displays.  In this environment, designers are also grappling with the growing number of electronics they need to integrate into cars as space constraints may limit this expansion.”
To end, Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ:  MXIM) did release a press statement.  Szukang Hsien is the Executive Business Manager of the Automotive Business Unit at Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.  Through a press statement, Mr. Hsien said the following.  “By reducing the number of ICs needed to support each display, the MAX16923 greatly reduces design complexity and board size issues.  This highly integrated power solution along with the MAX20069 TFT bias and LED driver are able to cover the power requirements needed for 12.3 inch and smaller displays.”  As previously stated, Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. recently announced that, it possesses a unique understanding of automotive electronic systems.  Specifically, the aforementioned business revealed that, it has launched an automotive display power management integrated circuit (I.C.).  The latter, is named the MAX16923.  Lastly and additionally, the MAX16923 is a highly integrated power technology solution that, is meant for original equipment manufacturers (O.E.M.s).
